Here are some Magic: The Gathering Coldsnap combos I came up with.
Braid of Fire + Greater Stone Spirit What are you going to do with mana from Braid of Fire during your upkeep? You could activate the Greater Stone Spirit's ability and dump mana into the "Firebreathing" pumping ability. Alternatively, you could try Braid of Fire to help pay for Deepfire Elemental's ability. Braid of Fire + Hibernation's End / Magmatic Core / Ronom Hulk Simply use the mana you get from Braid of Fire to pay for the cumulative upkeep of Magmatic Core, Hibernation's End, Ronom Hulk, or anything else with cumulative upkeep {1} or {R}. This works best if you play both permanents in the same turn, so that the upkeep costs are matched. Gelid Shackles + Sheltering Ancient If you're going to put +1/+1 counters on creatures an opponent controls, you might as well put them on a creature that can't block and attack (if you have the mana). Frozen Solid can also be used instead of Gelid Shackles. Freyalise's Radiance + Rimefeather Owl The Rimefeather Owl can "ice" permanents to make them snow, and Freyalise's Radiance prevents snow permanents from untapping. So "ice" anything threatening and at the same time pump up the Rimefeather Owl. Coldsnap + other sets combos
Either one of these cards by itself can be devastating. It gets even better when you have both out. Tap to destroy a creature and tap to get that creature into play under your control. Darien, King of Kjeldor + Doubling Season Wish you could have another Darien out to get double the effect? Here's an answer: play a Doubling Season so that whenever you're dealt damage, you get double the number of soldier tokens. Buried Alive + Haakon, Stromgald Scourge Buried Alive will get you the creatures you want in your graveyard. How about this: search for Haakon and two Knight cards to put in your graveyard. Then you can play Haakon and start playing Knight cards from your graveyard. Chisei, Heart of Oceans + Herald of Leshrac Cumulative upkeep of "Gain control of a land you don't control" is pretty amazing, but it might not last long if your upkeep keeps incrementing and you can't pay it. With Chisei, you can prevent the upkeep from incrementing and enable your Herald of Leshrac to stay in play longer. Chisei, Heart of Oceans + Phyrexian Etchings When the cumulative upkeep on Phyrexian Etchings reaches a good point where you're drawing enough cards, get Chisei out and remove age counters from Phyrexian Etchings as needed. Now you don't have to worry about the upkeep getting out of control. Karplusan_Minotaur + Spirit of Link Play Spirit Link on your Karplusan Minotaur, and watch as every coin flip you make with the Karplusan Minotaur's cumulative upkeep cost gains you 1 life. Flicker + Shape of the Wiitigo Six +1/+1 counters sounds good on any creature. Why not Flicker the Shape and get another six +1/+1 counters? Nature's Revolt + Rimescale Dragon Rimescale Dragon is absolutely devastating in limited games if you can't handle it. It can single-handedly make your opponent's creatures useless. But with Nature's Revolt, you can start tapping your opponent's lands, and leaving them tapped. |
